are you:

a. an analog artist?

b. not a shithead?

We don't want your portfolio. We don't need an artist statement. We don't need your artist Bio. It doesn't matter if you went to school. We don't need references. ArtBork was built for all artists who struggle with networking, gallery submissions, and the typical art-world-bullshit (so we want to make this as bullshit-free as possible).

Read on below for all the details, & do not hesitate to reach out with questions, art@artbork.com.

your art

show us

Step one:

show us your art

Email us 5-8 pictures of your work. Pretty easy to accomplish, but don't overthink it. You don't need professional shots, in fact, we encourage you to just grab your phone and go ahead and take shots of whatever work you have around. A good painting is a good painting, even if it is hastily photographed. We want to get a feel for your work. A bad picture of a good painting is better than a good picture of a bad painting.

What is your tipping policy? How did you pay for your car? What is the hardest you have ever laughed?  Do you like being right? Are you a shithead? Tell us about whatever you took a picture of. What's your opinion on Jeff Coons? What makes you angry? Have you ever yelled at a TV?  Do you say Cinema instead of movies?

You were at dinner and your companion mispronounces or misuses a common word, what do you do? Describe a time you when you were stuck in a long line. What did you do for your birthday?  Favorite band or movie or show or book in high school? Show us your least favorite painting/ drawing /whatever. Take a picture of something in your possession. Why do you have it? Who is your hero as a child, or high school, or right now?  Tell us about a time you stuck up for someone.

How do you treat your grandma? Describe your worst boss. A book that changed your life? Have you ever been punched in the face? Why? Most humbling experience?  What were you just thinking about? Have you ever you ever taken off your shoes and socks on a commercial airline? Please elaborate in detail on why you chose this prompt.  The thing you sold or lost or threw out that you wish you had back? When did you start making things?

Show us a picture of your work area.  If you want to tell us all about your work, go for it. What are your non-art interests? Did you ever appear on the American television program, The Bachelor, or its companion shows, The Bachelorette or Bachelor in Paradise, or post on any social media site that you were emotionally invested in any of the relationships the contestants were pursuing? Is Art important to you? Why?

Step two:

are you a shithead?

Ok, so this one is a little trickier, in your email,

go ahead and answer 2-3 prompts of your choice...

...or really, talk about whatever you want.

Whatever is on your mind.

We want to not only work with good artists, but good people.

We don't want to see your Instagram. Fuck meta. We don't need to see your accolades,

We just need to see you.

open your email,

things we

can do for you

  • Take decent shots of your work

  • Feature your work on artBork.com and give you a dedicated artist page that isn't Instagram

  • Promote you locally and find a spot for your work out in the real world, not on people's phones.

  • If your work sells, you get 70%

  • If interested, we can also take select works to be part of our tiny art series, which we feature online, and at popups.

Other than that, we're still figuring things out. After a year in operation, we have learned a ton, including learning that change is not only inevitable, It can happen rapidly. You are all individuals and we are flexible, there is no. This is just the way it is.

You let us hold on to at least three original pieces for our inventory. Small pieces dry mediums works on paper inks. Watercolor and non-traditional mediums are welcome. It doesn't have to ready to sell. We can help you mat up smaller works, So you can take that stack of drawings and turn it into a passive income. We will never, ever, EVER, ask you for money.

what we are

asking for:

We may not choose to

work with you.

Whether it's a bad fit, your work is just not quite there yet, or your style/subject matter is not something we are currently looking for... sometimes things don't work. But we will always, always treat you with respect and are fully supportive of your creative journey. Don't give up.

"Ian here,

I have been rejected hundreds of times.

I have been embarrassed by curators, called juvenile, told I wasn't good. I gave up and I'll never get that time back. Don't make that mistake. Now might not be your time, but one day it might be and there's only one way to know."

Sign up for our newsletter for artBork Pop-up locations, local artist profiles & works, and new items in the (art)BorkShop & (art)DorkShop. No AI crap. No automated emails. We won't add to the noise.

Thanks for your support!

Ian is a Hoosier-born corporate sellout trying to atone for 15 years of selling marketing software.  They have been a grouchy Portland-based painter since 2006. They can't Instagram, and are of above average height. Shay is an Oregonian who is good with a pencil.  She has experience helping non-profits keep their design sharp, and understands the terrible world of digital marketing. She hates being tagged, and hopes to use her skills for good. artBork was born from their shared core beliefs, disillusionments, and anxieties when it comes to how art is consumed. They are married. And adorable.

ArtBork was founded in 2025 by Ian and Shay, two analog loyalists that like to make things.
